Pre-Bereavement Service Launched at Holding On Letting Go – Thanks to Global Radio Donation

A grant of £25,000 has been made to Holding On Letting Go, to fund the launch of their new pre-bereavement service across Kent.

It comes from Global’s Make Some Noise, a campaign that ran across their radio stations including Heart, Capital and Classic FM last year.

The new service will enable the Rochester-based charity to provide a specific programme of support to families who know someone is going to die, to help them prepare for the death with their children and so support them for as long as they need after the death.

The grant will mean money is ring-fenced to provide the new service across Kent.

The money was raised through a national on-air campaign last year and grants were given out to small charities who help disadvantaged children, young people and their families across the UK, specifically to start a new project.

As part of the campaign we were invited up to the Global studios in London and one of the young people we support, Charlotte, joined Heart Breakfast Show host Amanda Holden for a skydive too!

To celebrate the funding announcement, we asked some of the children we support, to make us some posters – to help us to thank Global for the grant.

CEO Caroline Ford said: “Currently, there are limited pre-bereavement support services available for families in the region affected by the diagnosis of a terminal condition. At HOLG we aim to change this with our new project. This will provide much-needed pre and post bereavement support to children and young people through a range of specialist interventions to help them cope with their emotions and build lasting memories of their loved one.
“Unfortunately, with the coronavirus, many more families will be facing bereavement and we will be there to support should they need us.”

HOLG has closed its offices to prevent face to face contact, but help and support is still available to families through phone calls and video calls.

Visit the website to find out how to contact them, more about what they do and how to refer a child who may need their support.
